Southeastern Grocers Partners with Eagle Eye and Ecrebo to Accelerate Digital Transformation

TORONTO, July 14, 2020 – Eagle Eye Solutions, a global marketing technology company enabling one-to-one customer connections, and Ecrebo Inc., a global provider of POS receipt marketing technology, have partnered with Southeastern Grocers, Inc. (SEG) to support its business transformation strategy and goal of becoming a digitally enabled, omnichannel retailer.

One of the largest conventional supermarket companies in the U.S., Southeastern Grocers selected Eagle Eye in late 2019 to expand its media channels and enhance its customer loyalty and CPG promotions. The grocer also chose Ecrebo to take full control of its paper and digital receipt communications. As customer behaviors shift, SEG is leveraging Eagle Eye's AIR platform to grow its digital marketing capabilities and activate customer data, while using Ecrebo to deliver timely, personalized messaging through receipts.

“What started as an initial strategy to improve our coupon marketing has evolved into a much larger and comprehensive strategy to become digitally connected with customers, better understand behaviors across different channels, and be able to serve each customer individually with the right offers and content,” said Adam Kirk, SVP – Marketing at Southeastern Grocers.

Unlocking New Revenue with Customer Data and Media Monetization

Grocery retailers have historically faced challenges in unifying marketing channels and effectively leveraging customer data. Through its AIR platform, Eagle Eye will help SEG capture customer interactions, deliver personalized offers, and monetize new revenue streams across nine digital media channels. These include targeted email, connected-shelf digital coupons, on- and off-property paid media, and more—all aimed at driving customer loyalty and reducing marketing costs.

SEG will use Eagle Eye’s platform as a centralized data hub to streamline campaign execution, improve marketing efficiency, and enhance customer engagement through real-time, omnichannel personalization.

In-Lane Personalization Through Receipts with Ecrebo

Traditionally, grocers relied on third parties to manage targeted receipt communications, limiting control and revenue potential. Through its POS technology, Ecrebo now provides SEG with a complete in-lane marketing solution—launched in June 2020 alongside Eagle Eye.

Customers checking out at Southeastern Grocers stores will receive printed coupons on their receipts, tailored by store location and brand availability. Known customers can also receive personalized offers delivered directly to their mobile wallet.

Providing relevant offers at checkout is an effective way for CPG brands to reach more shoppers and for grocers to earn additional revenue by monetizing receipt space. Consumers also benefit by receiving timely offers and discounts on products they purchase regularly.

Next Phase of Media Channel Expansion

Starting in July 2020, Eagle Eye will begin rolling out additional media channels as part of SEG's broader strategy to increase revenue and incentivize customer loyalty. These channels will focus on integrating paid media both inside and outside of the store, and delivering seamless, connected experiences across all customer touchpoints.

"The importance of being able to digitally connect with customers in today's operating environment cannot be overstated," said Tim Mason, CEO of Eagle Eye. "For years, grocery chains have struggled with siloed systems, limited visibility, and missed opportunities to generate more revenue across channels. Our platform provides a single customer view and unlocks the full potential of omnichannel retail."

David Buckingham, CEO of Ecrebo, added: "We are proud to provide Southeastern Grocers with the POS technology that enables them to communicate effectively with each customer."
